Group leaders must sign up (see right column) no later that Friday September 12, 2008.
All leaders are required to attend the Small Group Leader Class held 8 consecutive Friday mornings starting on September 12th, 2008 from 10:35am-11:35am in Hoover 105.
After we complete the class, we will meet once a month for the remainder of the school year. Once signed up, you will receive further info from Mark Benjamin through email.
What do we do in Small Group Leader Training...
- We worship and pray
- We receive teaching on group-dynamics, how to lead a bible study, creating community, being a good facilitator, asking the right questions and more.
- We create small groups within the leaders to practice, model, and learn from one another.

There are 2 ways to be a small group leader...
ONE: Gather a group of your friends together (3 or more) and sign up by CLICKING HERE
A group can have two leaders, but both must attend the training

TWO: Become a floor study leader. Floor study leaders must first speak with their RA. sign up by CLICKING HERE
Floor studies are simply small groups open to all residents in your living space. Floor studies can have multiple leaders but all the leaders are required to attend the training.

Each leader will receive 6 credits
Each group member will receive 4 credits
(most groups meet 10-12 times a semester, you must attend at least 8 times in order to receive credit)
The Practice of Formative Friendship
At the core of an abiding relationship with Jesus comes a way of friendship that is a spiritual practice and discipline. Our true hope in offering opportunities for small groups is to make our way into the kind of friendships that becomes a demonstration in love. Ultimately God desires to see us reach out in friendship to those who need a friend. We also hope that we find commonality in our stories & we find that deep down all of us long to belong and be loved.

Information On Being A Group Leader

What can the group be about?
The focus of the group is wide open, but the desire is simply that this is an intentional time that we take out of our week to be about relationship, to slow down for some moments of prayer, to learn, to share, and to grow.
You can meet for regular prayer and life sharing. You can study a book of the bible together. You could have a reading group and have discussion around different sections of a book. You could watch the Nooma videos and talk about them...the options are as open as your creativity.
Who can be a leader?
Anyone...well sort of...we hope for leaders with these qualities... (1) A desire to see people grow in Christ (2) The ability to ask good questions & facilitate discussion (3) The ability to listen (4) A heart to make space in our lives to care for others.
You could also co-lead the group with a friend. Simply talk with at least three other friends who are interested and sign up as a group.
What does being a leader involve?
Our approach is simple, we want to be as much of resource to you as you need, but not make high demands of you outside leading the group. While anyone can attend the small group training (2-3 hours), we require that all those who are leading a small group for the first time attend.
You may also set up a meeting with Mark Benjamin to get seek some information to help prepare you to lead the group.
Twice a semester we also meet in groups with other small group leaders to share, reflect, encourage, and pray for each other.
Lastly, we end the semester by getting all of the leaders together to celebrate.
